Mineshafts are sprawling underground tunnel networks with rails, cave-spider spawners, and chest minecarts. Markers point to predicted start-chunk centers, not every generated corridor or vertical level.
The marker identifies the center of the chunk where generation starts. Explore nearby caves at several Y-levels because corridors can spread across many neighboring chunks.
Mineshaft corridors can contain rails, cave-spider spawners, and chest minecarts with name tags, enchanted books, ores, and other supplies.
Badlands mineshafts use dark oak supports and can generate unusually close to the surface. This preview currently models normal start rolls, not the extra Badlands-specific placement pass.
Is the marker the exact entrance or chest location?
No. It is the predicted center of the structure's start chunk. The tunnel layout, Y-level, cave intersections, and chest positions are not simulated.
Why can I miss a marked mineshaft?
Digging straight down at the marker can pass beside its corridors. Search caves and tunnels throughout the surrounding chunks and across multiple Y-levels.
Are Java and Bedrock positions the same?
No. Java and Bedrock use different random-number rules for mineshaft start chunks, so switching editions changes the results.
Does Large Biomes change Java mineshaft starts?
No. The normal Java start roll is biome-independent, so default and Large Biomes worlds have the same predicted X/Z starts.
