How to Compare Minecraft Seeds Side-by-Side
If you have narrowed down your choice for a new SMP server or survival world to two or three great seeds, picking between them can be tough. One seed might have a village at spawn, while another has a cherry grove surrounded by jagged ice peaks.
The MCSeedShare Seed Comparison Tool lets you put seeds side-by-side to analyze their terrain, structure proximity, and features in one glance.
How to compare seeds
- Navigate to the Compare Seeds page (
/compare). - Add the seed numbers you want to evaluate (you can add 2 or more seeds).
- Choose your edition (Java or Bedrock) and version.
Key Comparison Metrics
When the comparison view loads, MCSeedShare analyzes both worlds across key survival categories:
- Spawn Biome & Nearby Biomes: See which biomes exist within a 500, 1,000, and 2,000 block radius.
- Structure Proximity: Compares distances to essential structures like Villages, Ancient Cities, Ocean Monuments, Mansions, and Strongholds.
- Rarity Score: Shows which seed features rarer terrain configurations or rare structure overlaps.
- Biome Diversity Percentage: Measures how many unique biomes are accessible within a short walking distance from spawn.
Which seed should you choose?
- For Speedrunning / Fast Progression: Look for seeds with close Strongholds, Nether Fortresses, and Villages near (0,0).
- For Building / Base Aesthetics: Pick seeds with diverse mountain ranges, warm ocean coastlines, or rare biomes like Mushroom Fields within 1,000 blocks.
- For Hardcore / SMP Worlds: Choose worlds with multiple villages and ancient cities nearby for early-game trade and loot.
